Before he began his academic career, Invited Assistant Professor Dr. Mark Gibson worked in the food and beverage industry for more than 20 years in various roles including chef, consultant and front-of-house manager. After so many years in the industry, Dr. Mark Gibson had a change of direction and obtained his Master’s Degree in Food Management, Environmental Sustainability and Food Security from Manchester Metropolitan University in the U.K., and subsequently his PhD in that field at the same institution. As well as writing books and academic articles covering the food and beverage field, Dr. Gibson is an associate editor and reviewer for several scholarly journals.

2. Sharif Shams IMON

HERITAGE MANAGEMENT, TOURISM BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
BANGLADESH

Invited Assistant Professor Dr. Sharif Shams Imon is an international expert in heritage and tourism management with 24 years of teaching experience. He holds a PhD in Urban Conservation from the University of Hong Kong and has produced research publications on topics related to heritage management, heritage impact assessment, heritage tourism, and urban conservation. Dr. Imon is a member of 6 professional bodies and has been a consultant to UNESCO, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), and governments in 14 countries. He has been carrying out UNESCO World Heritage evaluation and monitoring missions since 2005.

CINDIA LAM

EVENING DEGREE PROGRAMMES
MACAO

Assistant Professor Dr. Cindia Lam holds a PhD in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting, from the Catholic University of Portugal, and a Master’s Degree in International Trade and Finance from Heriot-Watt University in the United Kingdom. Dr. Lam’s research ranges from niche areas in tourism – such as medical tourism, tourism insurance and wine tourism – to consumer and employee psychology. Results of her research studies are often published in international journals. She is a specialist in teaching service-quality management and accounting courses. She has also served as a consultant to the Macao SAR Government on many of its projects.

4. Connie Loi

CONNIE LOI

HOTEL MANAGEMENT, TOURISM EVENT MANAGEMENT
MACAO

Assistant Professor Dr. Connie Loi’s career has brought her full circle. Dr. Loi studied Tourism Business Management at IFT, graduating in 2001. She also earned a Higher Diploma in Hotel Management from the Institute. She subsequently received a PhD in Tourism from James Cook University in Australia. Her current research interests include hotel guest satisfaction, destination marketing, tourist behaviour and tourism product management. Results of her research appear frequently in international academic journals and in the proceedings of conferences covering the field of tourism and hospitality.

5. Eve Ren

TOURISM RETAIL AND MARKETING MANAGEMENT
MAINLAND CHINA

Assistant Professor Dr. Eve Ren holds a doctorate  in Hotel and Tourism Management, which she earned at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Ren has taught in institutions of higher education in Mainland China and Hong Kong, has contributed to textbooks on tourism and hospitality, and has had her research published in international academic journals. Earlier in her career, Dr. Ren worked full-time in tourism and hospitality. At IFT, she also oversees subjects in the field of business management.
