Congjiang secondary school pupils attend camp at IFT

中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese

From 23 to 26 June, a total of 32 high-school students and teachers from Congjiang County, Guizhou Province attended a Learning and Experience Camp at the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies.

During their time at IFT, the teachers and students got to know more about the IFT campuses and the study programmes offered by IFT. The students also took practicum-exposure classes on housekeeping, front-office and restaurant operations, giving them a taste of student life and education at the Institute.

In addition, the Experience Camp included a site visit to Galaxy Macao, one of the signature integrated resorts in Macao. Through the visit, the students were able to learn more about the operations of a large-scale tourism and leisure property.

The students also visited a number of historical places in Macao, including the A-Má Temple, the Ruins of St. Paul’s and the Mandarin’s House, giving the students greater knowledge of the history and culture of Macao. The Historic Centre of Macao has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2005.

Congjiang County is in the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture. The poverty rate among the inhabitants of the prefecture is among the most troubling in China. At the suggestion of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, Congjiang County was chosen to be a focus of assistance given by Macao as part of its contribution to the national effort to relieve poverty.
