Scholar Dr. Connie Loi has been appointed Vice President of IFTM. She joins IFTM President Dr. Fanny Vong and Vice President Ms. Florence Ian at the helm of the Institute.
Dr. Loi is the first IFTM graduate to reach such a high-profile position at the Institute.
The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ms Ao Ieong U, administered the oath of office to Dr. Loi during a ceremony held on 3 July. Dr. Loi’s appointment is effective from 1 July and valid for 2 years.
Following the enactment of the Institute’s new Charter in 2019, a second Vice President position was added to the leadership structure of IFTM. Dr. Loi was the first person appointed to the post. She will help oversee academic affairs.
Dr. Loi graduated from IFTM in 2001 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Business Management and a High Diploma in Hotel Management. She subsequently earned a Master’s Degree in Financial Management from the University of London, in the United Kingdom, and a PhD in Tourism from James Cook University in Australia.
Dr. Loi joined IFTM’s faculty team in 2002. Since then, she has taken on several roles linked to the development of the Institute. She led the work on launching the Institute’s first postgraduate programmes, including postgraduate diplomas, Master’s Degrees and PhD in academic year 2019/2020.
Following her appointment as IFTM Vice President, Dr. Loi expressed gratitude to the leadership of IFTM for its guidance and its trust in her over the years. She said she would work to further enhance the curriculum of the Institute and research output, in order to offer students a high-quality education and provide qualified professionals to Macao’s tourism and hospitality industries.
Dr. Loi added she would strive to help implement the local and national policies for the development of Macao, namely to make Macao a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, and to position the city as the Tourism Education and Training Base for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
