IFTM staged “Music Night for University Students from the Greater Bay Area” on November 21. The event held at the Mong-Há Campus was a celebration for the 25th anniversary of IFTM, the 71st anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China and the 21st anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland.
IFTM students helped organise the event.
Students at 16 institutions of tertiary education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance took part. Eleven of the universities or other institutions of higher education they represented are in the province of Guangdong and five are in Macao.
On the programme were 20 performances, ranging from songs to instrumentals to dances.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance was established in November 2016 with IFTM a founding member. The alliance promotes exchanges and the formation of education and research partnerships among institutions of higher education in Guangdong, Macao and Hong Kong.
In her speech at the event, IFTM Pedagogic Affairs Department Registrar Ms. Louisa Lam Pou Iok said Music Night was an occasion for students in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, known as the Greater Bay Area, to engage in cultural exchanges. She said the event allowed those taking part that were visitors to experience the unique culture and cuisine of Macao, and allowed Macao students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Greater Bay Area and to help the integration of Macao with national development.
The Greater Bay Area encompasses the cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing, in Guangdong Province, as well as the Macao SAR and the Hong Kong SAR.
IFTM is involved in several tourism education initiatives meant to help the development of the Greater Bay Area, as envisaged by the Central People’s Government. The Institute, as a public-sector body working on behalf of the Macao SAR Government, has been appointed the Tourism Education and Training Base for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The role means IFTM is coordinating its effort with partners in and outside the Greater Bay Area to promote the development of tourism education in the Greater Bay Area, and contribute in the development of the region as a world-class tourism destination.
