IFTM supports vocational skills competition among workers at integrated resorts

中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese

The second edition of the Macao Integrated Tourism and Leisure Enterprises Vocational Skills Competition took place on 29 and 30 July at the JW Marriott Hotel Macau in the Galaxy Macau integrated resort. IFTM was one of the event’s supporting organisations.

The Institute had a promotional booth at the site and IFTM Instructor Mr. Vishal Apte took part in the competition as a jury member.

There were a number of representatives from IFTM in attendance, including IFTM President Dr. Fanny Vong and the Director of the Institute’s School of Continuing Education, Ms. Diamantina Coimbra.

The vocational skills competition is jointly organised by the Macao Federation of Trade Unions and by the city’s Labour Affairs Bureau. The event focuses on 3 key areas: hotel services, gastronomy, and gaming and entertainment. It comprises several contests covering professional skills related to the operations of integrated resorts. These range from culinary skills to housekeeping, to skills around being a casino dealer.

The competition offers a platform for employees from the city’s integrated resort operators to showcase their professionalism and improve their occupational skills by learning from their peers.

Among this year’s 100-plus industry participants were a number of alumni from IFTM.

According to the Director of the Labour Affairs Bureau, Mr. Wong Chi Hong, the Macao Integrated Tourism and Leisure Enterprises Vocational Skills Competition plays an important role in the city’s positioning as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.
