IFTM undergraduates join exchange to learn about tourism in Hainan

中文摘要 / Summary in Chinese

A group of IFTM bachelor’s degree students recently visited the southern island province of Hainan on an exchange. It ran from 17 to 24 June, and was focused on boosting the students’ awareness regarding the development of Hainan as a tourism hotspot.

The 8-day summer exchange was arranged by the Hainan University – Arizona State University Joint International Tourism College. A total of 8 undergraduates from IFTM took part.

The exchange was organised under the “Ten Thousand People’s Scheme” arranged by the Central People’s Government Ministry of Education to offer students in Macao and Hong Kong a clearer insight into the Mainland. The trip provided participants with an opportunity to learn about the development of the tourism industry in Hainan, and the province’s ongoing endeavour to position itself as a free-trade port and as an international tourism destination.

The exchange also helped to forge links of friendship between the visiting students and their counterparts in Hainan.

As part of the programme, the IFTM students visited the campus of Hainan University, where they took part in a treasure hunt with students based there, as part of efforts to promote friendly ties between the 2 sides. The visitors also took part in a coffee-making and tasting class at the university.

The overall programme featured several seminars on the history, the culture, and the tourism and hospitality industry of Hainan. The participating students also joined a tour of the eastern coastline of Hainan, from the provincial capital Haikou to Sanya. They visited many famous places and attractions across the island, including the town of Bo’ao, the bay area of Wanning, the Yanoda rainforest in Baoting, and Haitang Bay in Sanya.
