Evening Bachelor Degree students highly praised by electric scooter maker Gogoro

Representatives of Gogoro Inc, a maker of electric scooters from Chinese Taiwan, recently commended the outcomes of a project focusing on the company undertaken by a group of IFT Year 2 Evening Bachelor Degree students. By making use of theoretical concepts and market analysis tools they had learned in the classroom, the students produced a business development report titled “Analysis of Gogoro’s Development in the Eastern Market of Taiwan”.

The students involved – namely Vincent Tang, Karen Ng, Grace Tang, Billy Sou, Stephanie Chong and Arnold Iu – are taking the evening bachelor degree in Tourism Retail and Marketing Management. The project was a group research assignment for the course International Business taught by IFT Instructor Mr. Lucas Lei.

Through an arrangement by Mr. Lei, the students met up with the distributors of Gogoro in the cities of Tainan and Taitung in Chinese Taiwan. The Gogoro representatives commented highly on the report, saying its contents are in line with market trends, propose innovative solutions and offer valuable insights.

Gogoro focuses on the making of electric vehicles and it has a wide network of stations in Chinese Taiwan where dead batteries for these vehicles can be exchanged for charged ones.

Mr. Lei says the report produced by the IFT students contains a balanced combination of theory and practical insights. He says the students showed a strong ability to understand the effect of globalisation on a business, and to suggest novel approaches to exploit globalisation by using cultural trends.

Mr. Lei adds that the meeting with the Gogoro representatives allowed the students to better understand how to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios.

The project leader, Vincent, says that the project enabled the students to learn about trends in the development of electric vehicles and relevant environmental matters. He adds that the group were happy to have their work recognised by an enterprise with an international scope, which was an incentive to keep studying hard.

Vincent says IFT courses often require students to do projects in groups so they can improve their communication skills and teamwork. He adds that such projects help build up student confidence, which is an advantage IFT graduates have when they join the labour market.
